Sunday 21 February
It will be a case of Go West this week - as we have a couple of entries in Exeter at the end of the week after a short spell of not having had any runners. Last week we had none on the track - but did manage to get down to Ravenswell Farm to see the 4 horses there. Hidden Beauty is a lovely big mare, and we are being very patient with her, and she will not be rushed. Immature horses need time, and if they are give that time they will repay you and this filly is a filly that will certainly benefit hugely from this approach. Volkovka is in fine form as in entered in 2 mares races in Exeter on Friday. Yauthym did a sparkling piece of work with a 147 rated hurdler on Friday and has been declared to run in Southwell tomorrow. If the rain stays away and the ground remains mostly Good To Soft it will be the most suitable ground she has encountered, and Southwell will certainly be the most suitable track she has run on. There is a smart ex French filly in the field, but although she has shown some very good form in France, there are reasons to feel that there could be a few cracks in her armour - and we can't be frightened of one horse so we are looking forward to running. While I was down in the Cotswolds I popped into Jason Maguires to see the horses that we have there. The Camelot filly looks fantastic, and she will be inspected by the sales companies while she is down there. She will be aimed at a store sale this summer. We will soon be sending another couple of young horses down there - it is a great set up. Another of our youngsters - the Mamool 3 yr old has settled in well at Charlie Poste's where he will remain for a couple of months after which he will return to the stud for a few weeks of spring grass before heading into training proper in the summer. He will be syndicated in 10% shares before he goes into training with Fergal O'Brien. Auditoria is flourishing in with Olly Murphy - she has been targeted at a fillys maiden juvenile hurdle in Hereford for some time and she will have a run in that. Lots of time and patience has been spent getting her to look healthy and well - and she will most certainly improve for her hurdling debut - but this is the right place to start, and a nice clear round is all that we are after. Classic Ben has an entry in the Devon National in Exeter on Friday, and will be confirmed for the Eider Chase on Monday - we will look at both races and decide where to go later next week. A few of the horses in Fences Farm remain under the weather with a few coughing - but CB was ok when scoped, so can run if we think it is the right race. Go Millie Go and Blue Bikini are being prepared for target races in early March and both are well. Another one that has been on the side lines for some time is Hi Ho Silva Lining who was very very lame a few weeks ago, and although he made a remarkable recovery, he still wasn't quite right when his work was upped so the team have had to back off of him again. The half sister to Queenohearts will travel over to Jason Maguires in early March and she is a lovely prospect to look forward to - Queenohearts herself has now completed the treatment for her slight injury, and we can start to look forward to next season with her.
