In And Out

A quick Friday update before heading off on more travels for the next few days. Last Sunday I flew out to Ireland to represent the Adlerflug 3 year old store that had to sadly miss his date at the Tattersalls Ireland Derby Sale in June, and was appearing as a Wildcard entry in their postponed May Sale on Tuesday. He had lost a shoe on the way over to Ireland in June and in the process had trod on one of the nails and punctured his sole. As you can imagine he was very sore - and as a result he could not be presented. He was withdrawn and headed off to the yard of Tom Rudd where he recovered quickly and was 100% sound in a couple of days - but we had missed our gig. Presented this week by Tom Rudds team, but still under the banner of The Elms he flew through his vettings last Saturday, and we looked forward to offering as the last lot through the ring on Tuesday. Viewing day on Monday was quiet, the sales ground seemingly empty - he did his shows very well and although none of the horses could be said to be busy, he was seen by all the right men that were there. Sale day was slightly busier, and plenty of those that saw him on Monday were back for a second look. He was going down well, and confidence grew through the day that he would be finding a new home, it was just a matter of getting what we were hoping for for him. Being the last Lot of the day, meant that those that were still on site, were keen to have him, and the battle in the ring boiled down to 2 bidders - Tom Malone for Paul Nicholls, and Harold Kirk who does the buying for Willie Mullins. Once he reached his reserve, it looked like he was heading to a Champion trainer! Eventually Tom Malone had the final say at 72,000 Euros and the horse heads to Nicholls. We wish his new connections the very best of luck with him. So with one horse sold it seemed the natural thing to do to add another new one to the team. I have had a nucleus of clients waiting for a filly or mare for quite a while, so we had a few to look at - we were underbidder in a couple, but ended the day with Lot 187, and gorgeous chesnut daughter of Soldier Of Fortune, out if a Flemensfirth half sister to recent Galway Plate winner Royal Rendezvous. She is a good looking, athletic young lady with a great outlook, and judging by the filly's we had been under bidder ion earlier in the day, we had expected to pay a fair bit more for her than we did, so we are already on a winner! Her sire has some amazing stats - with a near 60% winner to runner figure, which is considerably higher than both the top two in the leading jump sire list from last season, Stowaway (45%) and Flemensfirth (43%). She will be syndicated in just 8 shares - with the majority already spoken for. The remaining shares are priced at £2500 each, plus an all inclusive £300/month keep/training fee. She has arrived with Jason Maguire, and will be trained by Fergal O'Brien - who is looking forward to training her. For further details on the remaining shares please email me at nickbrownracing@gmail.com or call/text 07909 518902. She is on the For Sale Page too. We are delighted to have her - once again we have stuck to our tried and tested method of being very patient and waiting for the right horse for us, and I really appreciate the patience of those clients that waited with us. It is lovely to have trusting, committed and patient clients - it makes task of getting the right horse much easier. Travels again this weekend, and another busy couple of weeks coming up - yard visits and racing this week, and further sales on the horizon too!
