Cheltenham Festival
A bit further in front after yesterday - on the first day we witnessed Marvellous McCoy, and yesterday it was Wonderful Walsh. I thought he would have a good day, and with three winners, all flagged up here, he certainly turned it into a good day for those that took the advise. It did not start to well, with Don't Push It running out of petrol, and Kornati Kid missing a few on the way round, both finishing out of the money. Then the Walsh master class - Mikael D'Haguenet winning the Ballymore, with all selections filling the places, a good performance from the winner who is a future star. Next was Cooldine who won the RSA in good style, and then Masterminded who I thought won well, but all of the plaudits here go to David Pipe and his team who produced the training performance of the Festival so far in getting Well Chief back to his best to be second, he would certainly have won a normal renewal! Well done to all connections - I hope he is sound and well this morning. Good to see Petit Robin who filled third and was advised as an each way shot. I did say we should then give up - a no show in the Coral Cup -a non runner in the Fred Winter, and then we get the third and fourth in the bumper, won by one of the best horses I have seen for a long time.So on to today, 1.30 Kia Kaha is taken to keep up the form of the Jonjo stable, with Naiad Du Misselot taken each way. 2.05 Pennek to give Alan King his first winner of the meeting, fitting of blinkers will help and he ran very well in the qualifier ay Haydock, and Galient may fill the places. 2.40 Alan Kings second winner will be Voy Pur Ustedes, a banker bet - his Ascot performance was very good on unsuitable ground and he will be hard to beat, L'Antartique at 25/1 is taken to be placed. 3.20 Another banker - Kasbah Bliss, nothing with his level of form in this. I really like Tazbar who will be the each way poke. 4.00 Ferdy could have a good day, and I like the look of Three Mirrors in the handicap chase, a horse that has had a wind op and comes good in the spring he should run well 4.40 Another chance for Ferdy with the well backed Poker De Sivola and at a massive price have a look at Ice Tea with Brian Toomey in the plate - he did a sterling job on Mattaking and is a boy to keep your eyes on. All in all a tough day, and any bets in the last 2 heats will depend on how we get on earlier in the day.
