Tuesday 21 December
Tuesday has rolled around again, the day when the handicapper publishes his thoughts on last weeks racing, and how he rates the performances of the horses that have run during that time. As you know we had two runners last week, first out was Omaruru who ran a solid race to finish third (beaten 6 lengths) at Plumpton. This was his third run over hurdles, and the assessor has seen fit to give him a rating of - wait for it - 118!! As you can probably guess I was a little taken aback by the mark, as he beat a 110 rated horse by 1 length off of level weights! He obviously rates our boy, probably through his Warwick run which looks solid enough in fairness, but I think he has been a bit harsh, and we will stick to Novices for now, as, if the handicapper is right he should win one easily. Bobby Gee was our other runner - galloping stoutly up the Towcester hill for a seven length success. The handicapper has raised him 7lbs for that effort, which does look fair enough ( I was probably expecting a couple more)! Bobby is now rated 123, and we will look at some decent staying chases for him over the next few months. Races such as The North Yorkshire Grand National at Catterick, the Eider Chase at Newcastle, and The Midlands Grand National are all under consideration. Kikos will have a breathing operation in early January, Geoff Lane will carry out the proceedure, and if it helps Kikos as much as it has Bobby, then we should be in for a very good summer with him! There are a couple of shares for sale in Kikos if you would like to join us. There are just 2 shares left in Omaruru (rated 118) who (if the handicapper is right), will surely be winning very soon. I mentioned the Kayf Tara filly that will be coming into training next year, please give me a call if you would like more details about her, book your place - she is very nice!
