Monday 21 November
With a title like that there is little guessing where we were on Saturday aternoon. Haydock Park was rammed full, everyone there to see 'King Kauto' in what was billed as possibly his last ever racecourse appearance. I don't think it will be, after he destroyed a top class field in the Betfair Chase. He was clapped and cheered as he entered the paddock, which really set the following 15 minutes up and got the crowd up to fever pitch. He travelled and jumped superbly, and it was a joy to see. The cheers that he received as he returned to the winners enclosure were akin to scenes at Cheltenham or Aintree, and it really brought a tear to the eye to see the old boy do it again. What a great advert for our wonderful sport. Congratulations to all his connections, and especially P Nicholls who was under severe pressure one would imagine, after all the calls for Kautos retirement, but once again both have proved themselves class acts. E Major ran very well in the big hurdle race, finishing in mid division and will now head off for a brief rest.He will be joined by his half brother The Fonz, who will also have a little break after his very good run in a hot novices hurdle at Haydock on Friday. Yesterday Honeycreeper belied her odds to run into third at Towcester. She may not be the quickest or the biggest but she is game and tough and jumped perfectly - there will be a lot of fun to be had with her! Back at home, Colebrooke did his first piece of work since his run and went very well with San Telm who will run in a bumper at Uttoxeter on Thursday. Both are in great form, and San telm could run a very nice race on his debut for the Fences Farm team. There is still a small share for sale in San Telm if anyone would like a share in this very exciting prospect -(07909 518902). Smart Exit, who although entered at Uttoxeter on Thursday will run at Towcester on Saturday did the best piece of work I have seen from him as he worked with Grassfinch, so hopefully he will leave the form of his debut behind him. Omaruru is in fine fettle, and is literally kicking and bucking his way around the walker. He has stacked on the weight, and will have a saddle and bridle on in the next week. He is doing 2 -2 1/2 hours on the walker everyday and is full of himself - he may just take a bit of sitting on when they get back on him.
