Friday 8 February

Yesterday didn't entirely go to plan! Smart Exit looked to have a really good chance of building on his Fakenham success by running a big race in the opener in Huntingdon. Josh Moore was on board again, and SE was effectively running 5lbs 'well in' after the handicapper upped him earlier in the week. We wanted to be in the first 3 or 4 with a bit of cover, but after a very odd start, it never really panned out our way. They came out, went the wrong way down the track for about 100yards, and then turned to face the starter. Josh had SE placed perfectly to jump of in front rank, and looks to try and turn all the time they are walking away from the tape. Unfortunately, by the time the commentator had cried 'come back'! they had got so close to the inside rail all the 17 runners could do was spin individually and not turn as a group, which is normal and is what Josh had anticipated. So the obvious happened, when they spun round, those at the back were suddenly in front, and those in the front were at the back. Our race was over from here, and SE just suffered a nightmare trip round the inner which he obviously hates. He never travelled or jumped with any fluency and this is surley not his running. Different tactics next time, and he could be out again in a couple of weeks. SE seems fine this morning. Josh ended the day on a better note when winning the big race of the day on Chris Pea Green who is trained by his father.Well Done Josh! San Telm has been scoped this morning and has scoped clean. He will work tomorrow, and all being well, have entries in Haydock and Wincanton a week tomorrow. Norse Wren will hopefully get a run in either Uttoxeter (preferred) or Warwick tomorrow.
