Friday 1 March
The pony that is Grassfinch did the business in some style yesterday. The ground at Ludlow had dried a tad, and the 7 runners lining up for the mares handicap hurdle looked a mixed bunch on paper. Grassfinch was given a super ride by Brendan Powell to make all and score by a cosy 3 lengths. GF enjoys an easy lead and the decision of the 6 other jockeys in the race to leave her all alone up front was the wrong one, but everyone at fences was very grateful!! 9/1 was a big price! Ogee and The Fonz are declared in the same staying handicap chase in Doncaster tomorrow. Both will enjoy the quicker ground and both are in terrific form (especially Ogee) - could be another good day, although this looks pretty competitive! A date has been set for the annual Big Bash - a twenty/twenty cricket match between a Nick Brown Racing XI and and Eversholt XI, kindly hosted by Eversholt CC. It is an evening of Cricket,Craiq and Crackling (hog roast), so I hope that you will all put Friday 28 June in the diary and come over to Eversholt for a really fun night. As mentioned there will be a hog roast and as usual proceeds from the evening will go to The Injured Jockeys Fund. Hopefully we will get a few jockeys (past and present) up for the evening - it is always entertaining to see them wield the willow!
