Tuesday 12 November
Tuesday is handicap mark publication day - and a couple of surprises this morning. Firstly the one that didn't shock - Reyno down 2 to 105. Then the two that did - Firstly Benefit Cut - UP 2 to 120 (never good to go up for just standing in your box)! There is a reason though - the horse that beat him in Southwell, Capellanus, ran a cracking race in Musselburgh last Friday. Running in a Class 2 event,he was hampered at the first and became cast adrift, but stayed on really nicely over the 3 miles to be just beaten half a length into second. He had been raised 7lbs for beating BC and was raised a further 2 for his Friday outing - thus dragging BC up with him. In a way this will make life slightly easier as it will mean he stands more of a chance of getting in the weights proper in one of these decent limited novices chases. The other shock was Smart Exit (no change on 103). I really thought he would go up a couple of pounds for finishing a very brave second in Plumpton last week, but thankfully the assessor has decided to rate the race around him and leave him on 103. He will have a lovely racing weight if he goes to Huntingdon. Coffers goes to Huntingdon this afternoon. A horse that shows up nicely at home, it is hoped that he can overcome a perceived lack of stamina in his pedigree and run a nice race on his racecourse debut. Tom O'Brien rides. Colebrooke and San Telm have entries in Uttoxeter and Fontwell at the weekend. Today, Maypole Lass will be entered for her hurdling debut in Leicester next week. Don't forget to have a look at the 3 yr old filly on the for sale page!! A scorpion gelding, out of her winning half sister, Pairtree, was third in the foal show at Tattersalls on Sunday and was sold for 29,000 yesterday afternoon. Our girl is a half sister to 6 individual winners - 5 of whom won bumpers!!! If she follows in the family tradition - she will be worth a pretty penny as a brood mare when her racing days are over - her foals will certainly command a good price at the sales, as the progeny of her siblings are making really good money!! She comes form a very good family, and Stuart and the team are delighted with the progress she has been making since she arrived at Fences Farm a few weeks ago. She settled in beautifully, and has taken everything in her stride. She has a fantastic attitude to life which is all important with young fillies. I am very excited by her - please email info@nickbrownracing.co.uk for more information, or give me a call on 07909 518902 - she could just be a very nice investment!!! Only limited places left!!!!
