Friday 7 February
Yesterday was more like it from Colebrooke! Back over hurdles and on a bit better surface he ran a fine race to be fourth in Doncaster. Like San Telm, although he had won a chase (excellent form) he didn't really enjoy it, and showed on his third crack at the discipline that it was not for him. A return to hurdles facilitated a much better run, and we were all delighted - including Colebrooke. He still needs a little help from the handicapper, but we are getting there now! Every time the horse runs the Racing Post state that he won two juvenile hurdles, BUT HAS STRUGGLED WITH THE HANDICAPPER SINCE!! So tell me why it has taken him so long to come down! Jamie said yesterday that if he drops a few more pounds he will win again, and he is a fantastic fun little horse to have, he is tough and sound and will run regularly and pick up a prize or two on the way! He is fine this morning and will be out again in around 3 weeks. As mentioned yesterday Benefit Cut plans have been reassessed. He has come out of his race in great order, and in theory the right thing to do is to run him with a penalty as he looks sure to go up more than 7lbs!! He also needs to run once more to qualify for the novice handicap hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival - so on paper the right thing to do is to run next week. The first part of that theory is simple - there is a race for him in Leicester next Friday in which he would effectively run off of 129 - he is entered. The second part of the theory is not so simple - we need the horse to do it with. BC has always needed time between runs, but as he didn't really have a race on Tuesday, and Sam was easing down from the furlong pole there is more of a chance of going back quick. BC will be scoped first thing on Monday morning after which we will know where we stand! Exciting times with a very exciting horse!! Uttoxeter off tomorrow, so Smart Exit stays at home - his next possible targets are Chepstow 12th, and Fontwell 13th. Keep your eyes on here for Dawn Commander news. If my feelings are right there could be another jumpers bumper card next week, and if there is a race for him he will go as he enjoyed the last run very much. Suggestions for a name for the Tobougg Filly must be in by 6pm - so far I have two, so all her owners need to crack on if they want the chance to name her!!
