Saturday 10 May
San Telm went toMarket Rasen yesterday, not sure to run, but he did, and boy, did it work out!! We declared on the basis that the course would need the forecast rain to ease it from good, to good to soft, and thankfully it duly arrived. Stuart walked the course and was happy, and after Josh rode Mr Maynard in the second who disappointed (scoped dirty after the race, despite scoping clean on Monday), he was happy that the ground was OK for san Telm. ST's last run in Ascot was just a non event, and we were confident that if he showed no ill effects of the unpleasant experience, and handled the better ground he would go well. And go well he did! Josh gave him a peach of a ride, letting him pop round the first circuit and restoring his confidence, before pressing the buttons down the back straight on the final circuit. His injection of pace off the far turn had them all in trouble in behind, and was a race winning move. ST ping the final 2 flights in the home straight to win a shade cosily in the end. It was great to have the little horse back on song, and his owners were delighted. He is fine this morning and has spent it in the field in the sun. Smart Exit travels to Plumpton tomorrow, where the 3m 2f trip should be right up his street, and it will be very interesting how he handles a slightly sounder surface. Unfortunately Maypole Lass will miss out on Towcester after she was found to be not 100% this morning - the vet will cast his eye over her on Monday. I already have quite a few names down to join a new racing club, so please give me a call on 07909 518902 if you would like to join. The costs will be approximately £750 per share plus the standard £20/week all inclusive training fee. I will be looking at the potential new horse next week - he is a grand scopey grey gelding, by top sire Kings Theatre and has already won 2 chases earning a current rating of 119. He looks too good to miss, so don't delay - give me a call!! Our existing club horse Dawn Commander has been entered in Aintree next Friday evening.
