Whenever you buy a horse with form, particularly an unexposed type, with limited form to go on, you always have to make a judgement call on the worth of the form that horse has shown. No matter how much extensive research you do - you have to take a view to the strength of the form on offer, and by definition, that view is very subjective. Cloonacool - with just 4 runs this spring fell very much into the unexposed category. Thankfully it seems that my hunch was correct - his form is working out nicely!! I mentioned Hash Brown on here a couple of weeks ago, when he was fourth in a decent maiden hurdle at the Galway Festival. Last night the five year old son of Vinne Roe, who had finished just 2 lengths in front of Cloonacool in a Ballinrobe bumper when in receipt of 5lbs, easily won a maiden hurdle at the same track. Well supported all day, and ridden by Barry Geraghty, he travelled supremely well over the two and a half miles, taking it up before the last and winning very easily. The Racing Post Analysis states:HASH BROWN, placed on one of his four starts in bumpers, had run well on his second start over hurdles at the recent Galway festival and ran out an easy winner here. Hampered at the first, he was held up before moving into contention three out. He hit the front on the final bend before forging clear nearing the final hurdle.The extra half-mile obviously suited him and also the ease in the ground. This is what his trainer had to say after the run: QUOTES Michael Hourigan trainer of Hash Brown: He should have won a bumper here. He´ll make a nice chaser but will probably go to Killarney later this month for a winner´s hurdle.
