A good day at Brightwells, season ending sales in Cheltenham yesterday. A strong catalogue, and a strong trade. We have been looking for a nice mare, with decent form for a while, and yesterday we pulled out half a dozen to have a look at. The list was whittled down to 2, and after a bit of thought - down to 1 - which to be fair we felt we were unlikely to get in budget - but we would have a go. You can imagine we were delighted to get Lot 65 - Savingforvegas for Ben Turner. Ben has been a long term supporter, and has been looking to change up his string for while. He intends to sell Maypole Lass (Stuart would like to keep her in the yard), so if anyone would like a tough genuine mare then please get in touch (07909 518902), and replace her with a well bred race mare that will have a really good chance of being a superb broodmare. As we were having a meeting at the sales yesterday, it was a good chance of having a go at one, and Savingforvegas ticked all the boxes. She is a super looking mare. By a champion sire (Beneficial), out of a mare by another champion sire (Presenting). She is also the half sister to Rathvinden who was 3rd in the 2014 Neptune Investments Novice Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival - just 5 lengths behind the mighty Faugheen! Savingforvegas is a top class prospect, having recently won her maiden point to point by 20 lengths! Achieving a very high rating for a mare in the process! Benefit Cut is declared to run in Fakenham on Sunday - Brendan Powell rides. He is in good form, and this will represent the easiest task he has encountered for some time. A 5lb drop in the weights will help no end, and hopefully he will run a big race! Native Princess is still on course for Southwell on Tuesday evening.
