Tuesday 23 February
Lovely to see two new faces at Fences Farm. Over to see Bold Conquest, we hope we will be seeing them again! With a chilly forecast this week - Stuart took advantage of a fabulous morning and schooled those that needed it. Cloonacool and Paddy Thedeejay schooled up the fences first. Cloonacool was electric, Then Bold Conquest schooled over fences with Reyno - and both were very good. Finally Ereyna popped up the hurdles alongside Wolf Of Windlesham. Cloonacool will head to Saturdays Grade 2 Pendil Novices Chase in fine form - just seven entered and it looks like cutting up to just 5 runners. He goes there with a good chance if he stays the extra 1/2 mile. His one effort at that sort of trip, in a novice hurdle in Huntingdon, resulted in him not staying, and reverting quickly back to 2 - but we need to see if he does stay - if he does he could well improve, and it will open up lots of options for the remainder of the season. Bold Conquest was really good over the fences this morning, and he will be aimed at The Cambridgeshire National on March 6th. Visible Light scoped perfectly yesterday, and Stuart will crack on with him! Bad news regarding Ben Turners mare Savingforvegas, who unfortunately has had to be retired after suffering a career ending injury on the gallops on Saturday. Winning 2 from 3 starts for the yard, and finishing second on the other, she was a tough, genuine and talented racemare. Fingers crossed she will prove a successful addition to the broodmare ranks! She was always going to end up a broodmare - but everyone had hoped it would be in the distant future, and not just yet!
