As I mentioned yesterday we have added to the squad with a really exciting prospect. Everybody - meet Apasionado. This gorgeous 5 year old chesnut has been purchased from Ireland where he has been placed third in 2 of his 3 bumpers. His debut was made in awful conditions on Boxing Day and can be ignored, he looked like winning his latest start earlier this month, only to be hampered about a furlong out, after which he couldn't quite get going again. The jockey that day felt he was unlucky. Apasionado is by Mamool, and those that remember the fantastic grey Dawn Commander, will remember that he was also by this very underrated stallion. I have been looking for a horse by Mamool for some time! Dawn Commander is the best horse by the sire to have jumped a hurdle (yet), and like Apasionado, came from a very good German family. Apasionado's Dam has bred 4 winners to date, two of them being good enough to earn black type on the flat - in fact one of them was a Group 3 Winner!! He really is bred very well, and looks the part. He stands 16.1hh and moves beautifully. Jo rode him in 2 canters yesterday, and reported him to be lovely - he gave her a great feel, and she added that he was very athletic. We very much like what we see, and having been placed in 2 bumpers already feel that he is very much capable of winning a bumper on this side of the Irish Sea on his next start. He should be ready to run in a month or so after settling in! I can't wait to get going with him, as I feel he has a very bright future!
