Friday 13 April
It feels like it has been Friday 13th all week! If Carlsberg did weeks, this week would be the most undrinkable swill you have ever tasted. Actually to be fair it didn't start too badly. Molly Childers ran a cracker in Kempton on Monday to be second in a warm looking mares' hurdle. She travelled and jumped beautifully - hit a flat spot on the home turn, but rallied after the last to go down by an ever diminishing half length. She has come out of the race with just a couple of minor nicks, and could well head to Ayr next Friday for a valuable mares handicap hurdle. Tuesday was spent getting wet and cold in Doncaster at the Breeze Up sales. A long day! Wednesday we headed to Market Rasen with Chandos Belle. She had won last time out, but had been put up a hefty 9 lbs for that win. On Wednesday the ground was softer than the advertised soft, and she ran really well to be fourth. Unfortunately around 20 minutes after the race she was lame, and came home from the races heavily bandaged. A scan on Thursday showed that she had suffered a career ending injury, and she was instantly retired. She will recuperate at Fences Farm, before being turned out in the field in 8-12 weeks. After that we will look for a future career for her - be that as a broodmare or as a riding horse. She is a lovely mare and will do well at whatever career she gets to have I'm sure. All In all a week to forget - but I am sure that our luck will change again soon. Sneaking Budge will have an entry in Southwell next Friday. Land League will have an entry in Fontwell on the same day, and also have a couple of entries in Wincanton. Both are in great form. New boy Lion Rouge is pleasing everyone - and he looks like a great addition to the squad for the summer. There looks to be plenty of reasons to believe that Stuart and the team will improve him - so this is a great chance to get involved in a fun summer horse! Shares are priced at just £350, plus £25/week all inclusive training/keep fees. If mares are your thing - we still have a few shares available in 'Lily' - the un named half sister to Kaloci, who has been broken in at Fences Farm, and is now on holiday at The Elms Stud. She will be back in in July - shares are £540 each, with no weekly fees until she comes back into training in July - when they will be £25/week. Talking of Kaloci - I still seem to have a share available in her - despite someone saying they wanted it last week - she is a free lease - with just £25/week to pay - a dual winning 'black type' mare she will be plenty of fun through the winter! 07909 518902 or email nickbrownracing@gmail.com
