After a glorious week in Doncaster, it was another warm couple of days in Cheltenham on Wednesday and Thursday, more horses to look at, and a chance to but some fresh stock for the coming season. We didn't manage to get anything bought in Doncaster, but we did secure a private purchase in Ireland earlier this week, and he passed the vet on Wednesday - a 4 yr old, with a huge future - we are delighted to get him - more about him over the next week or so. Yesterday in Doncaster we also managed to add another one - a real embryonic chaser - not the sort of horse we usually end up buying, but we have snaffled this one with the future very much in mind. Our Bubba, is a big rangey 4 yr old son of Scorpion. Scorpion is the sire of Mite Bight no less, and his winner to runners figures really stack up. Our Bubba has come from the yard of Denis Murphy, which has produced such stars as Finians Oscar in the past few seasons - and is a top nursery in the world of Irish Point to Points. OB has had 3 runs in 4 yr old maidens, progressing with every run, as you would expect from a horse of this stature. He was fourth on debut, on a track that was way too sharp for him, travelling and jumping well, until getting hampered on the final (tight) bend, the winner of that heat was sold for £400,000, and the second for £100,000. On his second start, he again travelled well and was once again hampered at a vital stage, finishing third. On his third and final start he went hard at it in front with the eventual winner, and was a very good second in Necarne, with the third horse a long way back. This was continued improvement, and we see that carrying on on the track, where his high cruising speed will stand him in good stead.
