Thursday 28 March

Molly Childers heads to Warwick today to contest their £30,000 feature chase. Just the 5 runners, but it is the highest quality race she has ever contested, and it will be no easy task. MC is in great form, and this run should put her spot on for a tilt at a mares chase in Cheltenham in April. Since my last post there has been a bit going on. Queenohearts suffered a nasty overreach in her run at The Festival, and had to have a few very easy days to let the wound heal. Monday this week was a crunch day - she cantered again for the first time, and it all held together, so she is now back on track to run in Fairyhouse over Easter in the Grade 1 Mares Novices Hurdle over 2m 4f, for which she was entered yesterday. Pull Together, last week travelled to Chepstow, where we fancied him to run really well in the 2m 4f handicap chase. Sadly I got things very wrong, and he failed to stay the trip. In fairness we had thought that he was the type of horse that could be campaigned at a range of distances, as last season over hurdles, he just lobbed along in front - but since he has gone over fences, he really attacks them, and can't wait to get to the next one, meaning he picks up the bridle now, and takes a bit of a grip, resulting in a lack of petrol at the business end. PT has come out of the race fine, and will go again in a couple of weeks. Classic Ben ran a superb race in Newbury on Saturday. He was jumped across at the second fence, which put him on the back foot slightly, but with little help form Ben, Ciaran managed to get him back into contention turning in, and the pair stayed on one paced to be fourth. It was a good run, and a great ride, proving that CB is all about stamina, and that even 3m 2f isn't far enough for him on good ground! Stuart and the team will assess him over the course of the next few days, and a decision will be made if he runs again this season or not. The best news of all this week is that Land League has an entry in Uttoxeter on Saturday. LL has been off games since a run in a jumpers bumper just over a year ago - a bone chip keeping him off games. He has recovered well, and his last 2 pieces of work have been very impressive, so he will take his chance on Saturday. Getaway Mixie has had another slight set back, as she got rid of her rider on the gallop, and went for a sight seeing tour around the village. She has a few scrapes. Our Bubba, and San Seb are recovering form their injuries well, OB is back on the walker now, and SS will head off to The Elms to continue his recovery there. Figarella Borget is in good order, and has now schooled over hurdles. She will hopefully have anither educational run this spring in a bumper, with Ciaran in the plate, on better ground, before being put away for the summer, to hopefully return a stronger filly in the autumn. As many will remember, a few years ago we purchased Savingforvegas for Ben Turner at the Cheltenham sales, she ran three times for him, winning two, before suffering a career ending injury on the gallops. Ben retained her as a broodmare, and she bred him a lovely bay colt by Blue Bresil, who is now 2 and who will go to Fences Farm to be broken in in a couple of weeks. She didn't get in foal after having him, but did get in foal to Doyen last year, after which I purchased her, and last week she gave birth to another gorgeous bay colt foal. My first solo venture into breeding and a really good start. A healthy bay colt foal, by the very exciting sire, Doyen out of a 3 times winning half sister to Cheltenham Festival winner, Rathvinden - a lot to like! Mother and son are doing great. I have just 2 spaces left in another EIS qualifying investment scheme if anyone is interested, please get in touch. The horses we have in our existing scheme were all accepted for the premier Derby Sale in Ireland in June, which just goes to show the quality pedigrees and physicals we have on the team! We have already purchased a half brother to Gold Cup winner Sizing John for clients, and will be adding to that team over the next few weeks - so get in touch if you would like further information. nickbrownracing@gmail.com
