Monday 1st April

Great to see Land League back on track on Saturday. Having been off games with a couple of niggling injuries since March last year, it was good to see him back in the Saturday afternoon sunshine. Having had a long break, he was always going to need the run slightly, but he jumped and travelled really well, until the lack of a recent outing took it's toll after the second last and he weakened. It was a good enough come back, and the most important thing is that he has come out of the race fine, and will be out again in 3-4 weeks. Molly Childers ran a fine race last week in Warwick, beaten just over 6 lengths in a £30,000 handicap - She travelled as well as she has travelled in any of her races, and jumped super again, hitting her usual flat spot half way down the back in the middle of 5 quick fences was never going to be ideal, and she became slightly detached over the last 2 on that section of the course before staying on well. She has come out of the race in good order, and will head to a mares chase in Cheltenham later this month. Pull Together likes to get his toe in a bit, so he has been entered in Ffos Las at the weekend. South Wales is renowned for its moist climate, so it was worth popping him in to have a look - he has several options going forward, but it would be a shame to miss juicy ground if available. Figarella Borget has now schooled over the baby fences, and will run again in another bumper in a week or two, before heading out for a summer holiday. We will make sure that she runs in a race in which Ciaran is eligible to ride her, and get a good feel for her. Getaway Mixie will not run again this spring, and will head off for a good long summer at grass after a few weeks of box rest. She has slightly injured herself when she took a tour of the village, and needs to recover from that - after what she has been through the good long break will do her no harm at all! We are now taking names for our new partnership - this will be a 25 strong team, and we will lease a lovely filly for, in the first instance, a season, with the option to continue. The syndicate will work on the same basis as Kaloci, and Figarella Borget - in that we will lease the horse, so there will be no capital share to pay - just the fixed £110/month to cover her training/keep fees. These monthly costs will not start until the filly arrives at Fences Farm in October, to start her career, although she is there now, just being rebroken and ridden away. She is a lovely, big 3 yr old, by Winged Love out of a winning French mare from the family of Royal Auclair, who was placed in a Gold Cup and a Grand National. The last one we had from that family was Robo, who won 2 from 2 for us before being tragically killed in Cheltenham - he remains one of the best we have ever had!
