Volkovka

This filly had been on my radar since the spring, as she looked to have the perfect profile for the sort of filly that we look for for the series of fillies juvenile hurdles through the winter. Funnily enough I took her off of my list mid summer, as she was running to a level that I thought would push her out of our budget, so I really am delighted to get my hands on her. She has a rating that equates to a UK rating of 80, and contested a Listed event in Italy in August. She is by one of the very best stallions in the world in Camelot, and has black type performers close up on her pedigree. She has a bit of size and scope about her, and looks tailor made for the fillies juvenile hurdles over here. She will go into training with Fergal O'Brien, after a spell schooling at Jason Maguires. There is a super programme for juvenile fillies over the course of the jumps season, with some valuable Listed events littered throughout the winter, spaced out so that a decent filly can contest all of them. There are races in Aintree in December, and Doncaster in January, with a handicap for 4 yr old fillies to end the season in Cheltenham in April. Her season will be geared around these races - starting low and building up to them. She is the highest rated filly that we have ever got our hands on for this programme, so we are confident that the scheme can work well. The general rule of thumb is to add 50 to a horses flat mark to get an idea of the level they will be rated over hurdles - this would put Volkovka at 130, and she would be enormous fun at that! She has had a full veterinary inspection and passed that without a hitch, and has now started to loose school over poles and barrels. Jason is very impressed with her and really likes her, he says there will be no problem with her going over hurdles. She looks a complete natural at this stage. Volkovka will stay with him for a couple of weeks, whilst he gets her going over obstacles after which she will head up the road to Fergal O'Briens. There are already two races in the book as possible UK debuts - Fakenham in October and Leicester in November - either will serve as a nice introduction to hurdling ahead of a tilt at a Listed race in Aintree in December. There are just 10 shares available. They are priced at £2750 each, plus £250/month to cover the training fees for the share. Stable visits are welcomed - just give me a bit of notice to organise, and O&T Badges will be available. Full T&C's are available and will be sent prior to commitment. nickbrownracing@gmail.com or 07909 518902.
