Friday 1 January

Happy New Year to all! We nearly capped of 2020 in style, but sadly Volkovka was just denied by a head in Taunton. It was still a personal best, and she continues to improve, with the promise of more to come. It has been a joy to see her progress, and she looks like the type of filly that will give her owners a huge amount of fun in the future. There is a plan for her - as there always is with our horses, and her next step is slightly fluid, so I will have a chat with Fergal, Connor and Paddy and decide where she goes next. Yauthym is very close to coming back after a minor setback, when she got a little kick. She is in good form, and with the winner of her last race coming out and bolting up in a Newbury novice hurdle, we are looking forward to seeing her again. San Seb is in flying form down at Ravenswell Farm, and we look to capitalise on his love for heavy ground with an entry in a Ffos Las Handicap hurdle next week. The team at Fences Farm, have been quiet for a couple of weeks. With the string not quite firing, they have been given their mid season flu jabs a couple of weeks early and allowed to recover from that. All of ours have also been given a little bit of an MOT, which we hope will see them in a better light in the future. In Olly Murphys, Auditoria has settled in really well, and is putting on some weight. She is cantering away nicely, and we can't wait to see her make her hurdling debut. We have a few more down with Jason Maguire, including the (now 3 yr old) Camelot full sister to Gardens Of Babylon. She is a filly that doesn't thrive in the depths of the winter when left out in the field, so I have sent her down to Jason so that he can get her going and start her education. She is a fine big filly, and he likes her a lot. Hidden Beauty is also a big favourite in the yard, and everyone speaks so highly of her. She continues to impress in her work, and will be heading to Fergal O'Briens in the next few weeks on the next step of her career. At the Elms all of the stock look well. The Mamool gelding that went into Charlie Postes last spring will return there next month, and he will have his second spell in training. He is a lovely horse, and we think he will make into a 3 yr old, and will be aimed at bumpers next autumn. Shares will be available in him from late spring onward. We are sending two off to the sales in January, two lovely foals, a filly by Jukebox Jury who is from a family that we know really well. She is a simply stunning young lady, and we look forward to showing her at the sales, where hopefully she will find a lot of people that like her as much as we do. Also going through the ring will be the 2020 Blue Bresil colt out of Savingforvegas. He is a quality colt, and with three major updates to his pedigree over the Christmas period, I felt it was the right time to offer him for sale. The pedigree updates were not insignificant - The Big Breakaway, and Latest Exhibition both finishing second in Grade 1 chases, and a half brother to Savingforvegas just getting touched of in a Limerick bumper on his debut - looking like a lovely prospect, that will benefit hugely for the experience. All in all we have lots and lots to look forward to, and hopefully we will have a really enjoyable and fun '21!!
