Sunday 22 August

It has been a week of crowds. We spent most of this week in York, at their Ebor Meeting - the Royal Ascot of the North! It was a great meeting - and I can't tell you how good it was to see thousands of people, out enjoying themselves at the races after the trials and tribulations of the last 18 months. There was a real buzz all over the course, that certainly spilled into the town in the evenings. On the Thursday we were guests of Goffs UK, who we had teamed up with as part of their sponsorship package of their sales race. The winning trainer was to receive a free horsebox for the bulk of the 2022 flat turf season and it was good to see Tom Dascombe winning it with favourite Ever Given. Joint owner of Tom's yard,Michael Owen was there and he was thrilled to get a new horsebox and there will be a photo shoot with him, Tom, ourselves and the Goffs team at their Cheshire stables next spring. We had started the week with a trip to Fergal O'Brien's and Jason Maguires on Tuesday. Good to be joined by a few owners, both existing and new, who were all making their first visit to the yards. In Fergal's they got to see Paddy Brennan have a sit on their three year old Mamool gelding, who he liked very much, and they also saw Yauthym and Blue Bikini move really well in their work. At Jason's they were in to see the new girl we had picked up the week before. She is a lovely 3 yr old filly that is being broken in by Jason and his team, and will head into training with Fergal. All of them liked her, and I'm delighted to say that they have each agreed to take a share in her - leaving just a couple available. email nickbrownracing@gmail.com for more info. We also got to see Volkovka have a canter - she was as fresh as a daisy, and in superb form. She is pre training with Jason before heading back to Fergal and is another that has benefitted immensely from a summer break. Hidden Beauty has been cantering for 4 weeks, and is ready to return to Ravenswell Farm - she will head there very soon. Yesterday was another day with a good crowd as close on 30 NBR members made the trip to Olly Murphy's Warren Chase stables near Stratford Upon Avon to see their girl, Auditoria. It was a terrific morning - with a champagne reception, freshly baked croissants, and pastries, along with orange juice and tea and coffee. Despite the forecast rain, folks travelled from near and far, including a good number who made an early start from Kent! Thankfully the worst of the rain held off, and we got to see plenty of action. Auditoria didn't canter yesterday, but spent plenty of time in Olly's new outdoor arena in front of her owners. She was very fresh and well, and looks in superb order - a totally different filly to the one we had in the spring! There will be plenty of fun to be had with her for sure, and she should be ready to run at the end of September. Lovely to receive a clip from Fences Farm this week - Go Millie Go looking good cantering. Classic Ben still on the long road back to full fitness, the vet prescribed two months of walking and trotting for him, so he has another few weeks of that before he starts cantering. This week will be another spent mostly on Doncaster - flat yearlings on offer on Tuesday and Wednesday. I will also be trying to add to the jumps squad this week - with possibly 2 more horses joining the team. One will be for sale - the other possibility is a lease option for a lovely 4 yr old filly who is a half sister to two black type jumpers - she has a terrific pedigree and if all pans out - she will be available at just £25/wk all inc and will join a new trainer to the ranks.
