Friday 12 September
It was great to catch up with Trevor and Julie from New Zealand again last night, and we had a really good evening of good food and wine at The White Hart in Sherington where they are staying. They have been all over the country, avoiding the towns and cities, and travelled up from the West Country to stay in the vicinity of Fences Farm so that they could come and see the horses work, before heading up to the North Yorks Moors.
So after a good night it was an early morning to see first lot, and we saw Important Business go well with Ogee, and Mattaking swing along with Troglodyte. Trevor found it fascinating to see the horses trained in the open country environment, as all his horses in NZ are trained on the track, and their daily routine is somewhat differnt to the one he saw at Fences Farm. Trish supplied a wonderful breakfast, after which we watched Kikos, Rousing Rob and Bobby Gee canter, all the horses looked in fine form, and we will step their work up tomorrow to guage their fitness levels. Third lot and we all went to the jumps field to see a couple of horses pop a few poles and ditches. Our guests have now left to continue their tour, but I am pleased to say that we will see them again soon, as they are coming to support us at Uttoxeter a week on Sunday where all being well we should have a few runners.Trevor has also invited us down to NZ in the future to attend the Yearling Sales and some top class NZ racing, so that should be a lot of fun, and I will certainly be taking him up on his kind invite.
