Monday 23 March

What a day yesterday turned out to be. Two runners at Huntingdon, which in the morning could have been one. The plan was always to run E Major as he does like the quicker ground, but it was very much in the balance if Kikos would take his chance. We arrived early and walked every blade of grass, and I must say that the staff at the track had done a fantastic job in providing a quick but very safe racing surface. They had been plagued with irrigation problems, that were evident by the gaping holes on the infield, but had worked tirelessly to get water on the course and aren't we glad they did. E Major was in the first, in what looked like a pretty decent Maiden Hurdle, with some nice horses off the flat taking part. Before the race I had thought that we may be 3rd at a push but probably fourth - but he ran a blinder, jumping for fun, and just getting outsped on the run in to finish a very good second. He will now be qualified for a handicap and we will see what the assessor makes of his run, but we think he will also pick up a novice and as he will get weight from his elders it may be the route to go.It was a super start to the day. Then we had Kikos - we have been waiting for the better ground, and it proved to be the key as he put in a spectacular round of jumping to win by 3 1/2 lengths. He really put in some 'lovely leaps' and with a bit of luck he can go on from this on this better ground. He has been a fantastic servant this season - he has run 7 times - fell when looking like the winner, was then second twice, fourth twice on softer ground and has now got his head in front back on a quicker surface. Having only unsaddled outside the winners enclosure once all season he has been ultra consistent and is a credit to his very enthusiastic group of owners. I was told yesterday that I made a lot of ladys very happy, which does not happen very often!! A great day, and a lovely early Birthday present for Mrs Robeson who celebrates today.Very well done to her and all her team, and many thanks for giving us a fantastic day.
