Saturday 27 March
A bit like Picadilly Circus at Fences Farm this morning, with a host of Club and Partnership members taking advantage of the slightly better spring weather and coming to see their horses work. Saying that - it was only Mrs Robeson and I that were the early birds for first lot and saw Bobby Gee work well with College Ace, Bobby will, be entered for a handicap hurdle at Haydock next Saturday.Lareyno, an as yet unraced bumper horse took the eye in his work and seems to work as well as he looks. Second lot and the folks arrived to see Kikos do a piece of work with E Major, and all seventeen were happy with what they saw- Kikos went well, blowing up just short of the top, indicating that just a handful more faster pieces of work will see him ready to run. E Major was an eyecatcher, and is working very very well - he could just be ahead of the handicapper on this evidence. Willow Wren and Daurica both worked well in behind. Third lot we saw Important Business and Mattaking step up their work and both look fantastic. Matty seems to be full of enthusiasm, with his head down and going well, and I just can't believe how much IB has changed - when we first bought him, Jo used to ride him, as she was the only work rider that did not make him look small - now she looks a bit like a pea on a drum! He has really grown and matured, but still as daft as ever and always wants to do everything at a million miles an hour. Ken Collins came to see us again, and I am pleased to say that he has purchased the share that was for sale in IB, and he is very much looking forward to going racing with him in the summer. Geoff Bridgford was over as well, and he really liked the look of Mattaking (who doesn't) and he has leased the remaining share in him as well. I really do hope these two lovely gentlemen get some good sport over the coming months. Jardin De Vienne worked third lot with Ogee, and really does seem to be in the form of his life. Really keen, and showing some blistering pace, he will be entered for a two mile chase next Sunday (4th April) at Plumpton. We were going to wait until the middle of the month with him, but he seems in such good form it was decided to have a look at the Plumpton race, but he will only run if the ground conditions come in his favour (ie Good or slightly quicker)
