Monday 9 July
We put our heads together late last week, and decided that with the 'beautiful' summer we are having the horses would be happier back in their stables! So by this evening San Telm and Colebrooke will be back in and tucked up in the warm at Fences Farm, and Tannerman will be in at Michael and Fionas and will be on the walker. This will get TM started before he has his wind op which is scheduled for sometime in the next 7-10 days. He will return to Michael and Fionas after his op and continue on the walker, so that by the time his incision is healed he will have done plenty of his walking, which will mean that we can crack on and get cantering sooner. In fairness San Telm and Colebrooke have not really had that long out in the field, but it can be no fun in the cold and wet, and they have had as good long break away from Fences Farm and exercise, so they should be well recouperated. Both will start off over hurdles, and we will see where the season takes us- ST will head to a more conventional track over 2 miles and Colebrooke will be aimed at one of the 2 big meetings in Chepstow in October, there are 2 hurdle races there, both handicaps over 2 1/2 miles. Smart Exit will have his op at the same time as Tannerman, but as we do not need him until later in the Autumn for his favored soft ground, we have left him out at grass until after his op. Omaruru continues to recover from his injury, and looks very well - but the big man would live on fresh air! Off to the sales this week, where I have identified a number of targets to go at, and hopefully we will be successful. The aim is to buy a nice juvenile hurdler to go to war with over the winter months, and hopefully get to the Festival in March.
