Thursday 21 November
Omaruru made it back yesterday, and wasn't it good to see him!! We were saying that he seems to have been around for years, but he is still only 6!! He has had some ups and downs in his life - nearly dying twice from colic, and then sustaining a leg injury on his comeback run! The Fences Farm team have done a fantastic job with him!! It was a day wracked with nerves as not only was it his first run back for over 600 days - it was his chasing debut!! I need not have worried, he jumped beautifully, and was given a super ride by Josh Moore. He finished a very creditable 6th, and Josh was very sweet on him afterwards. The pundits on Racing UK were very complimentary about him, saying he was 'pick of the paddock' and 'apart from the winner- the only horse to take out of the race'. He did look stunning, and won the Best Turned Out award, well done Stephie!! The icing on the cake is that he has trotted up sound this morning, which is a big relief after such a long time off!! He will now be give plenty of time to recover from his exertions and all being well, will be out again over Christmas. Ereyna ran a very nice race as well yesterday. Mrs Robeson's homebred filly was making her hurdling debut and ran a lovely race to finish in mid division. She travelled well, and all bar the third last, jumped great. She will need a handicap mark, but there will be races to be won with her! Guest Of Honour is entered in Ludlow on Monday. With only 19 entries he is guaranteed to get into the race, so he will make the trip there and take his chance. He will have blinkers applied. Genny Wren will also make the trip across to Shropshire to make her chasing debut. Yesterdays rain in Huntingdon (5mm) has stopped the ground drying, and sent it back to Soft, so with 2 dry days forecast it should be ideal for Smart Exit's run on Saturday! The 3 yr old Tobougg filly continues to do everything asked of her - she is looking in fantastic order, and will start to canter in a couple of weeks. She is a very balanced mover, and everyone that has ridden her likes her very much, but we have found out that she doesn't like cows!!
