Wednesday 15 January

This weather is really starting to get a bit boring now! Rain every day means that the ground has no chance of drying out, and virtually every racecourse has the word heavy in its' going description! This is somewhat causing havoc with plans, and means that we are having to make entries going forward in case the main objectives are either off or deemed unsuitably soft. Smart Exit has happened on a bloody competitive heat in Towcester on Sunday, and although it has been the plan since his last run, he has been put in races in Leicester and Wetherby next Tuesday - in case Towcester is off, or if the races are a little less tight. Benefit Cut has Ascot on Saturday as his main aim, but the ground there is already heavy in places with more rain forecast, so he has been put in a 2m Novice Chase in Leicester on Tuesday just in case. San Telm is also engaged in Towcester on Sunday, but we all have reservations about running him on heavy ground, so he will also have entries going forward next week. We are juggling things about, and keeping as many balls in the air as we can, everyone is very mindful of doing the right thing by the horses, a promising sort can be very easily set back by doing the wrong things! ST did school over hurdles this morning and did seem to have his old mojo back over the smaller obstacles - he will be very much more at home over them when he next appears.
