I know that officially the new season started back in May, and that since then the team at Fences Farm have manged to clock up 4 winners from just 11 runners - but it is today that it really feels like the new season has started. Horses start to come back into work after their summer breaks. They have all had a good chance to relax, get a nice belly full of grass, and let their feet grow out. It does them the world of good - we all enjoy a good holiday, well some of us - I never seem to get one doing this job and the day job! The horses that will be back this week are - Benefit Cut, San Telm, Maypole Lass, Cloonacool, and Dawn Commander. Native Princess will head off to Jamie Goss's at the weekend and do her pre training with him. Jamie broke her in last season and did a super job, so it will be interested to see if he can see the change in her. Smart Exit will come back in at the start of August, as he wants some cut in the ground, and therefore doesn't really need to be ready to run until late October/November. Dan Skelton has given Colebrooke a brief rest, but still intends running him in the valuable 3 mile hurdle in Southwell later this month. There has been a second 1/4 share become available in San Telm this weekend, and I can't believe that nobody has snapped up the first one yet!! ST is a 126 rated hurdler, who won on his final start of last season, and who is still at the right end of the weights to win more handicaps. He will be aimed at the Pertemps series this year, with the plan being to win one, which should put him on a mark that will get him a run at the Cheltenham Festival in March. He is a tough, sound and very admirable little horse who is also a winner over fences - so a real chance not to be missed - please give me a call on 07909 518902 to discuss him further. We also have shares in the ultra consistent winning hurdler and chaser Smart Exit available, along with just a few shares in new boy Cloonacool, who has shown enough in 4 runs in Ireland to make you think he has a really nice future on this side of the Irish Sea. The arrival of the horses into their stables also heralds a few changes with the way that we approach our management of syndicates. Since I started buying and syndicating horses back in the late 1990's I have done it as a hobby, and all the day to day management etc. Has been done free of charge. Unfortunately circumstances change, and costs rise, and it is for this reason that from July 1st we will have to start to charge syndicates, joint and sole ownerships for our services. This will at least put these types of ownership on a level par with Nick Brown Racing who's members already pay for this service through their weekly/monthly subs. I will be contacting all syndicate members to inform them of the changes, but thankfully those that I have already informed have been very supportive and said they couldn't understand why I have not done it before!! The good thing is that thankfully, at this stage, the extra costs will not result in an increase of monthly subs!!
