Monday 1 June
We headed out to Fakenham yesterday with Benefit Cut. Bc has been finding life hard off of what has turned out to be lofty marks gained in a successful novice year, but dropped to 125, and over a trip that looked sure to suit he looked to have a great chance yesterday. Overnight rain, and rain in the morning had left the surface Good, but after the first chase the jockeys reported it to be slightly slippy. Brendan Powell took the ride, and all was going to plan, with BC jumping well and travelling with ease, he was in second place approaching 5 out, but unfortunately made a mistake there and unshipped the unfortunate Brendan, who had a rotten first day back after a ban. The horse continued to jump around and actually went on to win the race, but without the jockey! BC is slightly stiff this morning, and he will be assessed later in the week. Native Princess is declared in Southwell tomorrow evening. Thankfully they have moved the card forward an hour, and her race is now the 8.05, and not the 9.05! There are 13 fillies and mares declared, and it looks like a very decent renewal, but she is in grand form, and we will know what to do with her after the run. Good ground should suit. Good to see a new face at Fences Farm on Saturday, and we hope that we will be seeing Vicky again soon, she had the full tour - got to see a few do a bit of work on the gallops, saw new girl, Savingforvegas have a canter in the jumps field, and saw all the boys on their holdays in the field. I think she liked what she saw!
