That didn't go to plan! Dawn Commander fluffed his lines somewhat yesterday! With a repeat performance of what happened at Aintree, he somewhat sulked for two and three quarter miles, but as opposed to Liverpool where he was pulled up last night he consented to run on after the last and finish like a train!! As before, his race was lost at the start - when the starter had to hold them to allow the staff to doll off all the hurdles in the back straight, Dawn Commanders head began to turn - and when the tape finally went up, instead of jumping out handy he sat back on his hocks and ended up stone last. After this he simply sulked, and Brendan did a great job to coax and cajole him round to pick up third place money! Most would have pulled him up! We all know that DC has a mind of his own, and if you think you can understand him then think again - I am not sure he understands himself!! But we have now seen his latest party trick and will find a way to overcome it!! He seems fine this morning - just a couple of nicks to a hind leg. He will head to Market Rasen next month. A big turnout of owners last night - 33 made the trip, and as usual were very sporting after the run. They all know what he is like, and enjoyed their evening nonetheless. We all like to win - but sometimes there is more to it than that!! Maypole Lass is entered in Southwell next Monday. It looks a very competitive heat on paper, and she will have entries in Uttoxeter a week today. We will look at all 3 races and pick the most suitable on for her, after considering ground and opposition.
