Wednesday 22 March
Vet Ed Brett was in this morning to cast his eye over a few and to scope some others after work. Paul Wells in first lot to see his two, Kingsley and Maria's Benefit. Both his horses went well. Land League worked really well, and scoped OK afterwards. Cloonacool worked poorly, and seems very out of sorts, the only course of action is to give him a break. He will head off on holiday, and return in June, when he will resume work. He will have a corrective procedure on his breathing later in the summer, and all roads will head to Market Rasen in September. Grey Warbler worked well, but her scope wasn't 100% and she too will head off on holiday, and come back next season. Apasionado who ran such a cracking race in Kempton on Saturday will also now have a break. He has picked up a slight niggle after the run, and will be treated before going out in the field. He will be back in work in early July. Molly Childers and Chandos Belle will also head off to The Elms as soon as the weather warms up a bit. Maria's Benefit is on course for Aintree. The Flemensfirth filly is slowly coming to hand. She is putting on weight now, and is in better form with herself. Stuart is still hoping to get a run into her this spring, and hopefully there will still be some soft ground around when she is ready. Sad news form Weatherby yesterday, where Petethepear sadly had to be PTS after he fractured his off hind fetlock joint half way through his race. He had been a fine servant, and chasing was always going to be his thing. Unfortunately he never got to show us how good he could be as a staying chaser. he will be missed. After the highs of Cheltenham last week, it soon brings everyone back down to earth. On that note Domesday Book is in fine form, and is bouncing after his win. Tricky Silence is fine after his run - much better ground next!!
