Friday 14 April
Happy Easter to everyone!! Good news to start off the day - Land League, has scoped clean this morning, and will have entries from next Friday onwards. We were so disappointed when he trailed in last in Uttoxeter on his last start, and could not work out why, but although he had scoped 100% a couple of days before his run, he scoped very dirty a few days afterwards - explaining his poor show. He is now back on song - and can hopefully put matters straight on his next outing!! Tricky Silence continues to recover well from his op, and I will have more news on his future in the coming days. After looking at the long range forecast last week, and seeing that they were predicting the distinct possibility of a record dry April, Stuart took the decision to rough a good number of the team off - and head them off on their holidays. At this time of year the tracks can be very rough and bare, and when they dry out, they can become more likely to induce injury. The courses do a great job of watering, and do their best, but sometimes nature gets the upper hand. I was in Doncaster for 2 days this week, and on Wednesday they were watering the home straight. I do not know how much water they have said they were putting on, but in the high winds - I can safely say that at least 60% of it was watering the golf course inside of the track! Who would be a groundsman? Always battling the elements!! There will be a few new faces at Fences Farm when the horses come back in from their summer breaks. We are actively looking for more horses in the closed season transfer window, and are hoping to have both new horses and new owners when the action gets underway later this year!! This will hopefully include a new syndicate horse. This will be a minimal capital outlay, plus £25/week all inclusive training/keep fee. It has been a plan for one of theses ownership groups for some time, but the right horse has just not come about yet - but we are confident that we will get one in the next 6-8 weeks. I have a list of folks that said they would be keen to join us, so if you would like to join in the fun then just get in touch. nickbrownracing@gmail.com or 07909 518902.
