Wednesday 19 April

It looks as though Edward Arkell the Clerk Of The Course in Fontwell is doing his best - he has walked the track this morning and now gives the ground there Good. With no Good To Firm in the description, Land League will be declared to run there on Friday. It is the right race for him - ignore his last run, as he was found to be full of mucus after he ran. He is a very exciting prospect, and a gorgeous model to look at! Ian thought so - he got in touch over the weekend, regarding a share in him, and came to see him yesterday afternoon. Ian liked what he saw, and snapped up a shre in him. Unfortunately he and his wife will not be able to make Fontwell on Friday, but they are very much looking forward to joining in the fun with their own horse. We wish them the very best of luck with him! The two year olds have been model pupils during their time in 'Primary School', and have passed their leaving exams. They have been mouthed, long reined and backed and have both been ridden up the long Fences Farm drive and back. This is as much as Stuart and the team will do with them at this stage - and they will return to The Elms to enjoy the summer out at grass. Sumu could well return for a bit of extra tuition in the autumn, as I think he could well be an early type, and could be on a racecourse next year, so it would be good to get the next part of his education done before this time next year. Franc Roc is a later type, and he will return to Fences Farm next spring for his turn in 'secondary school'. Both are really nice horses!
