It has been a very long wait - and many avenues have been explored, and found to be dead ends, but yesterday - a bit out of the blue - we secured a cracking filly to run for us next season!! It has been the plan to start another 'Club' horse - a 25 strong ownership team, to lease and run a horse for the 2017/18 National Hunt Season, but it just seemed that all of the horses that we were being offered were either absolutely useless, or had physical problems that would mean they spent more time on the sidelines than actually on the track! Trust me we had explored so many possible candidates, that I had almost given up hope of securing a suitable horse! It is very easy to go out and put your name on the first cab off the rank, but ultimately we are about getting out to the races and being competitive - that is where the fun is - no point just incurring vets bills, or going to the races and pulling up! So it was a good day yesterday, when we secured KALOCI for the season. Kaloci has had 2 runs in bumpers, finishing fifth on debut, but running on very well at the end, and then running a very good race to be third in Uttoxeter last week. She is by Stowaway, (the same sire as Molly Childers), out of a mare by Old Vic, who is at the top of the tree when it comes to National Haunt Broodmare Sires! So she has the pedigree to do the job for sure. She isn't the biggest, but Stuart always does well with this type - the very exciting Maria's Benefit isn't the biggest, and we all remember Grassfinch, who won a host of races, and was tiny. Kaloci looks to be another tough, genuine 'pocket rocket', who will appreciate soft ground and a trip in time. She has already schooled over hurdles, and jumps for fun!! There is no upfront capital outlay with her, and no fixed term - we will only pay for her while she is in training. The weekly cost is a mere £25 - which is all inclusive - there will be no extras! Each member will receive 4% of net Prizemoney, and be entitled to 1 owners Badge every time she runs, so you can always go and see her run if you can - you do not go into a ballot for badges, so you will always be in the paddock!! Extra badges will be available at cost, which will be deducted from the prize money dividend paid at the end of the season. This is a great deal - for a genuine, tough and talented mare that they assure me will improve no end for being at Stuarts! I only did the deal for her yesterday and have already had 7 people take up the offer - so there are just 18 shares left in her!! Both owners of Land League - Phil (also Sneaking Budge) had never seen LL, so it was good for him to meet him. Kevin has been with LL from the start, and yesterday he increased his interests by purchasing a 10% share in the very exciting Classic Ben. We wish him luck with CBen - who looks to be cracking value! We had a stroll around all of the fields, and looked at the horses on their holidays. Many will return to work on July 1st, and will probably enjoy getting out of the heat, and away from the flies.Chandos Belle looked particularly well, and will have benefitted no end for the break as she was never healthy last season after arriving from Germany. By the way - it is usually this week that we host the Owners Cricket Match - but a change of plan this year - you see it will be the nicest evening of the year this year - we will arrange an alternative get together - about which we will be in touch individually in the near future. It will be good to get the ball rolling again, with the horses back in their boxes over the next couple of weeks!
