Yesterday started like any other day - cup of tea, scan the Racing Post - jot down the names of a few 3 yr old I would keep an eye on for the rest of the flat season with a view to a future hurdling career should they come on the market. A light breakfast (yes - hard to believe - no bacon and eggs here)!! And into the office to catch up on some paperwork. Nothing out of the ordinary there! I certainly didn't expect to be the owner of a three part sister to the mighty Sprinter Sacre by the end of the day - but that is exactly what happened! I had intended to head out to Deauville for their summer sale, but those plans were shelved over the weekend - but I kept an eye on proceedings from the office, watching a live stream of the sale on my lap top. I had seen photos of the 2 yr old filly Figarella Borget, by the great Network, before the sale, and thought she was a nice type, and was surprised to see her walk out of the ring unsold. A quick phone call, and an inspection by our man over there, and we did a deal! What a coup! She will head back to the UK later this week, and go to The Elms Stud, where she will enjoy the rest of the summer. She will winter out there and be broken in next spring, before starting her racing career and coming into training in the autumn. She is very much like her illustrious 3/4 brother, carrying the same colour, and even having a tiny bit of white around the coronet band of her hind leg! If she goes half as well Sprinter Sacre we will have enormous fun with her! The top photo is Figarella Borget, the one below is Sprinter Sacre - spot the difference!! what a value she will have as a broodmare should she get her head in front on the track! I don't think I would be exaggerating to say that having the opportunity to get involved in a filly with this sort of pedigree is a 'once in a lifetime'! But this is what we will be doing in the very near future. We will let her arrive at The Elms and settle in before making plans for her syndication. She is a very rare commodity, and this will be a super chance to be involved in something very special - having a share in her would be like having a share in the 'Mona Lisa'!
