Thursday 25 August

The work is building up at Fences Farm as horses get fitter and closer to their seasonal debuts. On Wednesday Brendan Powell was in to ride a few. First lot he had a sit on Land League and was very pleased with him. LL is in good form and has an entry in Worcester next Wednesday, and will have an entry in Bangor On Dee next Friday. We will assess ground and opposition and decide where to go over the weekend. Cloonacool worked well with him. He will go for his annual away day down in Lambourn at the start of September. Second lot, Brendan gave Molly Childers a school up the hurdles. She was given a lead by Harriet on Maria's Benefit, and the pair were very good. Brendan then had a canter on Sneaking Budge. Yesterday I was back over to Fences Farm, as usual Cloonacool swung along with Land League, and everything else looked in good form. After the horses had all been worked Stuart and I set off to Bourton On The Water to Ben Brains veterinary practice where he was casting his expert eye, over Molly Childers and Kingsley. Molly had an overland scope, where an endoscopic camera is fixed to her bridle, and via a tube, Ben can get a live video of what is happening in the area of her larynx as she is exercising. It is superb technology, and we were able to see what was happening to her breathing as she was cantering and galloping. It is fascinating, and she left Bens without the need for and proceedure. Kingsley on the other hand was operated on and hopefully this will help him in the future, he needed it. He was back at Fences Farm last night, and will spend a couple of weeks in his box recuperating. Back to Fences Farm this morning, where we welcome 2 new owners to the yard for the first time. They are in to see their new girl Kaloci, in who just a few shares remain. Photos: Queenohearts gets a wash down. Cloonacool leads Land League back in after work Second lot heading home.
