Rest And Relax

After a busy end to the week before - the last week was considerably more quiet.

The final runner fo the previous week was Mamoon Star in Newbury, and on Monday he headed down to Jason Maguires for a few days of rest, and a chill out. It is a really long season for any horse, and especially for a young one like him - so to be able to give them a little spell away from the hustle and bustle of a busy training yard is ideal - and Ivy Lodge Farm is the perfect place. He joined both Volkovka and Blue Bikini down there, Volkovka having a short break after her run in Ludlow, and Blue Bikini there to give her a complete break from training as she has been really quite sick with a respiratory infection that she just hasn't been able to shake off - so a total break for her. She will have another week of being simply turned out in the paddock, before Jason pops a saddle back on her and rides her away for a week, after which she will return to Ravenswell Farm.

A quiet start to the week here - just half an eye kept on the entries for The Reynoldstown Chase in Ascot. A possible for Queenohearts - but by mid morning Matt and Kim had decided that she would not have an entry, and instead she heads to Exeter for a Novices Handicap Chase next week. Congratulations to Kim, Matt and all the team who ended up winning the Grade 2 contest with the 147 rated Does He know.

The rest of the week was very quiet on the horse front, but there was a fair bit going on for me - a lunch meeting on Wednesday, another lunch on Thursday - this time in London, a table with friends and clients - and a really good day! On Saturday with no horses running I was able to accept an invite to the ex Presidents Lunch at Huntingdon Rugby Club - another great afternoon - despite the narrow 16-17 defeat to Dunstablians. So it has been a fun week - with plenty going on - mostly eating and drinking!

More importantly the horses are all well, we have covered the three with Jason Maguire, and already mentioned plans for Queenohearts, who could be joined in Exeter by Classic Ben who has been entered in the Devon National on the same card. He is in great form, and could return to a track that suits him well. He does have an entry in the £80,000 Eider Chase in Newcastle next Saturday, and we will track confirmations for that on Monday morning, off of his current mark, and in the form that he seems to be in, the huge prize fund is very tempting up there- so we will keep an eye on the stength of the confirmations and see whether we leave him in or not. Edmunds also reports Go Millie Go to be well on the mend - she has done plenty of cantering, and has jumped lots of poles - but is yet to school over hurdles. He is really happy with her and believes that she could be back ready to run in around three weeks.

Elsewhere, the two fillys in at Olly Murphy's are both in fine form, Auditoria had an extended period of quieter work after her run in Uttoxeter at the end of January, just to freshen her up, and Tintagel Queen is really pleasing him with everything she does. We will get a full update on them both when we get to see them both on the gallops on Wednesday.

The remainder with Fergal are all fine - Yauthym is cantering away after her run in Kempton, Hidden Beauty remains on course for the Listed Bumper in Sandown next month - there has been no sign of the irregular heart beat that caused her to stop so quickly in Cheltenham, and she seems in the rudest of health. The two unraced fillys - Fortune Forever and Sunset Melody continue their education and are both going well. Both are quite green as you would expect, but they are learning all the time.

Today we were due to be enjoying a day Point To Pointing - but sadly the weather has put pay to that!

Next week we have a bit on  - Wednesday we have a yard visit to Olly Murphys. On Thursday a morning meeting will be followed by a trip to the sales in Cheltenham. On Friday I will be in at Ravenswell Farm to see work there, before heading down to Exeter, from where I may be heading up to Newcastle- if CB goes to the Eider instead of The Devon National.

One day next week  'Dean' the 3 yr old gelding by Doyen out of Savingforvegas, will be on the move. He was broken in last year, and has been back at The Elms Stud since finishing the first part of his career, so now is the time for 'secondary school' - He will head up to Charlie and Francesca Postes for a couple of months before returning the The Elms for some spring grass. When he has had a nice break he will then head on to his new trainer to begin his career proper. His new trainer will be Donald McCain who we are very much looking forward to working with - he is without doubt the best National Hunt trainer in the north of England and having a horse trained in that part of the UK is another step in the ambitious plans we have going forward. We feel the Dean will be ideally suited to either junior bumpers or the new series of national hunt juvenile hurdles, and the match with Donald is perfect, as he said he has been looking for horses for this sreies since it was announced last year. The yard are having a fantastic season - with 122 winners on the board, and having Dean in training there will be ideal for our clients in the north to enjoy their racing a little closer to home!

Dean will be syndicated shortly - with shares available as a free lease - with no capital outlay, and monthly costs at just £25/week all inclusive. Please get in touch if you would like to be part of his ownership group. 07909 518902 or email nickbrownracing@gmail.com

This time next week I hope to be able to announce another new syndicate opportunity, and another new trainer to our ever expanding team. As mentioned before - 2022 looks like being a very exciting year for NBR with our biggest team of horses by far, and an ever increasing team of trainers. All you have to do to be part of it is drop us a line!
