I have just received the update from the vets at Rossdales, where Omaruru is in intensive care after undergoing emergency colic surgery on Monday. The news is that he is 'Doing well.' Professor Tim Greet, who carried out the proceedure, informs me that Omar will be led out in hand later today to allow him to have a pick of grass. He will also be allowed access to water. Food and water have been restricted up until now, as horses will tend to gorge themselves, and after the type of small intestine trauma that Omar suffered it is important to let the gut rest, otherwise it can lead to paralysis of the intestine. Professor Greet is pleased with things so far - so lets hope our boy keeps progressing!
