Saturday 30 August
A busy few days to catch up on. Earlier this week it was a pleasure to welcome Dave Page to Fences Farm with his wife Claire, and I am delighted to say that they were impressed with what they saw, and have purchased Mairise to run in the colours of a new partnership called the KTDA Partnership. Dave and Claire will share their ownership with their friend Martin and Martins Father Vincent. We are well on the way to having the new partnership registered, and the colours are on reserve and have been ordered, so it will not be long before they are on the racecourse! Their new horse, who is their first horse, is a gorgeous 3yr old by Derby winner Authorized. He is home bred by Mrs Robeson, and is a half brother to Ben Turners Maypole Lass. Mairise has had a few runs on the flat for Sir Michael Stoute, and although never quite getting his head in front, has run some super races in defeat. He has real size and scope, and Sir Michael himself suggested a switch to hurdling for him. We wish the Dave, Martin, Claire and Vincent the very best of luck with him. This morning we had a good group of owners to watch their horses. All were in second lot - Bob Graham (DAWN COMMANDER, CLOONACOOL AND SMART EXIT), and Geoff Bridgford, Alan Gibson and Kevin and Jo Hornby (DAWN COMMANDER) all got to see their horses do 2 nice canters. Although Cloonacool was on a day off - both Alan and Geoff both loved the look of him, and have both purchased a share each in this very exciting young horse - again, we wish them luck with their new boy! Also out second lot were Mr Maynard, and Ereyna who will both have entries in Fontwell next Sunday - MM was particularly pleasing in his work. Third lot, Bob and I watched Maypole Lass and San Telm do two nice canters. ST is in fantastic form, and ML could only be 3-4 weeks off a run - she is coming to hand very nicely. She will start off over hurdles, but could well switch to fences during the season. The horses are really coming together nicely, and their seasonal debuts will be here before we know it!
