Monday 8 September

The weekend started well - Terence Jenner was in to see his horse Benefit Cut, along with Martin and Trevor. Terence was thrilled with the way BC looked, and after a chat over a cup of tea later in the morning plans for the first run of the season were mulled over. BC hasn't been asked to go quicker yet, as Stuart is holding on to him for a week or so, as his seasonal debut is not likely to be until the middle of October. Also out second lot were San Telm, who will start work in earnest now with a date in early October an option for him to start his season, Cloonacool who quickened up for the first time and did it very nicely, and Native Princess, who after recovering from a little niggle, and undergoing a wind op seems to have really improved - she went well! Maypole Lass lead the group, and her wind op seems to have worked - she too will be running early next month. Third lot saw Smart Exit lead a group in a couple of canters. SE is in top form. In behind were Mairise, who did 2 canters for the first time and did them easily, and Dawn Commander who is in rude health! Yesterday the yard had one of those days! Travelling to Fontwell on a sunny Sunday with what we thought were 2 decent each way chances we left with a well beaten, and a pulled up. Mr Maynard travelled and jumped very well until appearing not to see the trip out in a higher grade. There will be better days for him back in his own grade. Ereyna was a real mystery - never travelling and eventually being pulled up. They will both have a couple of days to recover before being assessed. All in all a disappointing day, the only good part of it was seeing Dave and Claire Page, and family again ( Dave and Claire are co owners of Mairise), and the weather!
