A great day out in Uttoxeter yesterday. Nice weather, not too hot. Excellent ground, a fine run from Kayla, and good to see Ben Turner and some of his new Burton Albion team mates. Kayla went to Uttoxeter in good heart, but Stuart was a little worried that the step up in grade may catch her out. No one else seemed to have a concern, and she went of the well supported 9/4 fav. Settled off the pace by Paddy Brennan, she made a huge mistake at the first in the back straight, and mistake that would usually signal game over, but she is one tough cookie, and was soon back travelling well. She crept into the race nicely and too it up at the top of the home straight. Jumping well up towards the finish line she battled bravely and won nicely. She isn't very big, but really is all heart. Ben Turners new side Burton Albion were sponsoring a few races on the card, and it was nice to meet a few of his new team mates I the paddock before the race. They made it back to the winners enclosure, and even managed to get into the winners photo. A really nice bunch of lads, and who knows - we may even see one or two of them at Fences Farm in the future! We will follow their first season in the Championship with interest, and wish them all well for their debut season in that league after gaining promotion last season. Kayla's win demonstrated how good Stuart and his team at Fences Farm are with mares. Since the 30th April 2015 Stuart has trained 7 mares to win 8 races, with a further 6 seconds 2 thirds and 2 fourths from 25 runs. A 32% win strike rate, and a 72% win and placed strike rate. Fantastic statistics, considering 2 of the mares that make up those figures were homebreds, and not very quick! These facts have not gone unnoticed, and that is why I was keen to secure a couple of fillies for our syndicates for next season - and in Molly Childers, and the Flemensfirth 3 year old I think we have a gorgeous pair that will surely add to these already impressive figures. Molly is sold out, but just one share remains in the other one, but be very quick as there are already 2 interested parties in her - I hope to have the Sold Out signs up by the end of the day! Rest assured we are on the lookout for more, and will be adding to the ranks in the next couple of weeks - watch this space!! Well done to Stuart and all of his team!!
