What a year for Eye And Ear! Eye And Ear?? I hear you say - Eye And Ear is the dam of Kaloci. We all know about the mighty atom that is Kaloci, and what she has achieved this season. She was the first foal out of Eye And Ear, and won a bumper on her debut for us, before going on to place in a Listed Bumper in Huntingdon on Boxing Day, gaining some valuable Black Type for herself and her Dam. She then went on to win on her hurdling debut in Leicester, and has finished a very brave second in both of her subsequent hurdle starts, trying to concede over a stone to a younger rival both times. Kaloci has an entry in the Grade 2 Mares Handicap Hurdle Final in Newbury on Saturday and although she may not be the biggest, but she is very tough, and has an incredible will to win. It was this ultra tough attitude that drew me to her when I saw her run in Worcester for Kevin Bishop, and is the reason she came to the Edmunds yard. It was with great interest that we kept an eye on Kaloci's half brother - Kelp Forest - a 5 yr old by Arcadio, who had run very well to finish 8th in the big Land Rover Bumper at The Punchestown Fetsival last spring. We were told that he had been sold to race in America, but it seems as though that didn't happen as he appeared in a Limerick winners bumper yesterday. Running for Mr Hyde, who part owned him last season, he was making his debut for the yard after the sad death of his previous trainer and part owner Willie Codd. Yesterday the race looked to be between to previous winners - one owned by Graeme and Andrea Wylie and trained by Willie Mullins, the other owned by Gigginstown House Stud, and trained by Gordon Elliott. As it happened it didn't matter, as Kelp Forest ran a cracking race to beat them both. It was a victory that was loudly cheered here in the office, as it not only backs up the pedigree of Kaloci, but also gives a huge boost to one of our latest recruits! As some will be aware - we liked Kaloci so much, that when we were made aware of her 4 yr old half sister in a field in Ireland, we decided to take a chance and purchase her. Lily as she is known at Fences Farm is also by Arcadio, and therefore a full sister to yesterdays winner Kelp Forest, so yesterdays win was very important for both her career and the broodmare career of Eye And Ear, and Kaloci. Lily has been at the yard of Stuart Edmunds for a few weeks and has settled in well, she has been broken in and will have a good few more weeks in there, and be got cantering nicely before heading out to grass for a summer holiday. She will be back in training in early July. I have made 25 shares available in her which are available for just £540, with no training/keep fees until July 1st, when they will be set at an all inclusive £25/week. In other news - handicap ratings published this morning make for interesting reading. Chandos Belle - up 9 for a less than 2 length win, seems harsh, as Now McGinty was raised 10 for a 7 length demolition in Warwick a few days before, Molly Childers down 2 to 120. There are now just a couple of shares left in Getaway Mixie - so be quick on that front if you are interested.
