'Red Bikini'
3yr Old Chesnut Filly
By Masterstroke out of Ma Councha.
Those of you who have been owners/members followers and supporters of NBR over the course of the last few seasons will no doubt remember a mare we had on the team called Hidden Beauty.
Hidden Beauty was probably the most talented mare we have had on our squad. It was no secret how highly regarded she was at home, based on her work – and absolutely no shock when she came from a seemingly impossible position to cruise to victory on her debut in a Ffos Las bumper.
She went from there straight into Listed company and was expected to take all the beating in Cheltenham but sadly suffer atrial fibrillation half way through the race and was pulled up.
It took a lot of work, skill and time for the team at Ravenswell to get her back, and like so many horses that have suffered ‘AF’, despite winning a good novice hurdle in Doncaster, she would never quite hit the heights that she was at early in her career.
When the chance to purchase her half sister cam around a couple of years ago, we didn’t have to think twice!
This 3 year old chesnut filly is simply stunning. She oozes quality and class, and judged by her looks, athleticism and pedigree she, like her half sister Hidden Beauty looks to have a very bright future.
She is by Masterstroke, a stallion that is sadly no longer with us, but who’ progeny are really doing well on the track.
A quick look at his stats shows him at number 12 in the Young National Hunt Sires standings across Europe, with 20 of his 54 runners winning at a very healthy 37% strike rate. He stands above some very good sires including Golden Horn, Goliath du Berlais and Camelot.
This filly’s dam Ma Councha is by Turgeon, one of the best Broodmare Sires in Europe. She has bred 3 winners from 6 runners, including the very talented but ill fated, Faith du Val who was a Listed performer.
This filly was foaled and has been raised at Peel Hall in Cheshire. As with all of the young stock that we plan to retain on the team, she was broken in as a two year old before having a long break. She returned to work in early February and is currently back being ridden. She will join the rest of our squad and head into pre training with Jason Maguire at his Ivy Lodge Farm near Gloucester in early March, when she will be syndicated.
She will spend two months in pre training before having a break for a couple of months, this period will give her the chance to process and recover from her pre training, both physically and mentally, and is vital before she heads into training on July 1st 2025.
She will be trained, as Hidden Beauty was by Fergal O’Brien at Ravenswell Farm near Cheltenham and will be aimed at Junior Bumpers in the autumn. The hope is that she will prove herself capable of running in the Listed 4 yr old only bumper in Cheltenham in January 2026, before switching to a hurdling career.
Being British Bred she is 100% qualified for the GBB bonuses - £10,000 for a Bumper win, £20,000 for a hurdle win and £30,000 for a qualifying chase!
