Intrepide Sud

INTREPIDE SUD

This horse is such an exciting prospect for us to have added to the team – he is a simply stunning 4 yr old gelding and already a winner of a 4 yr old Point to Point on debut. He is a big (16.3hh) scopey horse with stunning looks and a great athletic step).

Intrepide Sud is by Coastal Path (Asterion Forlonge, Bacardys, Franco De Port), he is already a half-brother to a Grade 3 Hurdle winner – and his dam is the half sister to Raz De Maree and Lattitude who herself is the dam of 4 black type winners – as you can see he has the pedigree to go with his looks.

He was offered at the Tatersalls Ireland Cheltenham Sale in April, but sadly failed to make his reserve, after which he ran in a bumper in Aintree where he took everyone by surprise and was very keen through the race, and without cover, ran far too free for ¾ of the race – but still only finishing 14 lengths behind the winner (who was subsequently unsold at the sales for £85,000 – with the second selling for £45,000 – both of whom had received reminders before entering the home straight while Intrepide Sud was still cantering in front). Gina Andrews who rode him reported that she felt he must have a well above average level of ability to pull as hard as he did, and still finish where he did.

Intrepide Sud is trained by Fergal O’Brien at Ravenswell Farm and Ferg has been impressed with his work thus far, pairing him with some decent horses at home. Fergal - ‘from what I have seen at home, I would be disappoined if he couldn’t win a bumper and at least 1 novice hurdle this summer.’

Intrepide Sud has proven ability, he galloped and jumped his rivals into the ground in his Point To Point, showing a high cruising speed and an excellent jumping technique. His schooling has always been top class, and when this horse meets eight flights of hurdles he will really come into his own. Everyone that has been involved with him to date see him as a very exciting 2m chaser in the making – and we can’t wait to see him over fences in the future.

Intrepide Sud made his debut in a Worcester bumper in early July, and was unlucky to be beaten - Paddy riding a very quiet race on him after he had been so keen on his bumper debut, and just not quite getting there at the line despite finishing very strongly. Paddy feels he will win his bumper before going on to even better things over obstacles.
