Old Blue Eyes

OLD BLUE EYES (Blue Bresil x Savingforvegas)

Don't say we didn't tell you!! An impressive WINNER on debut - there is a lot more to come from Old Blue Eyes! Read on......

This one should not be missed - although he is yet to make his debut - his homework is of the highest order - and he has a very bright future ahead of him!

Old Blue Eyes (Frank) is a homebred, and we are delighted to have retained him to be able to syndicate him to run in our colours. He is 4 years old and has a big future ahead of him - as his pedigree would suggest.

He is by non-other than Blue Bresil, currently the hottest National Hunt sire on the planet, largely due to the world beating exploits of his son Constitution Hill, along with a host of other top class performers including Blue Lord, and Royale Pagaille, along with the multiple French Grade 1 winning mare, L’Autonomie.

His dam is Savingforvegas who is a half-sister to Cheltenham Festival winner, Rathvinden and Listed Chase winner Where It All Began, and is a mare we originally purchased for a client, for whom she went on to win her bumper and a novice hurdle before injury curtailed her career on the track. It was such a shame that she was injured, as in winning what turned out to be her final start, she defeated two subsequent Listed winners, and would have undoubtably gone on to gain black type herself.

Her first foal was also by Blue Bresil and after placing in a bumper, he has gone on to score twice over hurdles - her second foal, Dino Bellagio, was retained by us, and has won 2 of his first four starts in bumpers. He is trained by Donald Mccain and is held in very high regard. He had a less than ideal start to his hurdling career, but is a horse that Donald retains the utmost faith in - there are few horses in the yard that can work with him.

Having been so successful with Dino Bellagio it is only right that Donald McCain should get the opportunity to train Old Blue Eyes, and he headed up to the yard in late summer last year. His training went very well, and he showed that he posseses a huge amount of ability with some very eyecatching pieces of work. As he was only 3 he started to show signs that he needed a break - as you would expect from a young horse by Blue Bresil, and he headed back to Jason Maguire for a short spell. When he had had a chance to recharge the batteries, he retuned to Bankhouse, where he continued his education, but was unable to make his debut or even have a racecourse gallop as the spring ground just got a shade quick for him.

He was put away for the summer and returned after a summer break a more mature horse. His work this autumn has been very good, and he headed to Sedgefield for his debut in late November. Having not had the benefit of a start in a point to point or bumper we were prepared for him to be very green and learn a lot from the experience - and so it proved - he had a long look at everything around him through the race, but when Brian Hughes switched him wide and pressed the button he sprinted down the hill (clocking 40mph) and ran right through the line for a cosy success. Brian Hughes was very impressed with him, and thinks he can male his mark in some nice bumpers during the season before a switch to hurdles next term. The aim would be to head to the Grade 2 bumper that closes the Aintree Grand National Meeting in April.

The form of his debut run was framked when the second, Moonbow, who had the benefit of a previous point to point start in Sedgefield, won cosily next time out in Catterick.

Old Blue Eyes will improve no end from his debut start, and he is a horse with a very nice future!
